About me
Scott Hebert is an educator in Elk Island Catholic Schools and has been a teacher for 15 years. He has made it his goal to eliminate the stereotype that school is, and has to be, boring in the eyes of students. Gamification was the solution Scott and his students came up with and since its integration into his classroom pedagogy, it has reached classrooms all over the world. Scott has been recognized both provincially (Alberta Excellence in Teaching Award recipient in 2013) and Internationally (Best Gamification in Education Project Globally in 2015) for his efforts towards promoting Gamification in the classroom. These efforts, and the continued growth of the program fueled by hs students, led him to be named a recipient of the Top 50 Finalists for the Global Teacher Prize Award of 2020, making him the 1st Albertan ever selected. Scott was also recognized as the Human Kinetics Alumni of the Year in 2017 from his alma mater Laurentian University. He lives by the message, “Would you want to be in your classroom?” and strives to achieve this goal daily. Scott is a father to 2 amazing children, bonus dad to a 3rd, engaged to his amazingly patient fiancé, author of 2 books on gamification, a two time TEDx Speaker and avid supporter of all things sports and athletics. Kids have to go to school, why should it feel like a chore?
